Love Poem, Poets' Circle Collaboration

Love Poem

Love, from seed to seed, from planet to planet
Memorialize a moment
Like paint on canvas.
Sweet surrender.
Hot canvas.
Cool nights
With love like a knife.
At my back
before me…
Only the light
bright and pure and cutting
 like a knife.
Make my day and make it a delight!
Open to hot gluttony and undulate like sweet ambrosia before God.
Sing with lavish violet verve, a tin lizzie of clematis.
The flowers brightened like a flame
Then faded and dropped to the ground.

(“Love, from seed to seed, from planet to planet” from a sonnet by Pablo Neruda)

Music, by Leah Lubin

 Music, by Leah Lubin

Hello.
How are you dear
music my friend?

I’ve been missing you,
but there is a reason
I’ve had you turned off.

It’s my heart.  It’s healing
and I can’t take any more
chances by just letting you in.

When I do open the door
and let you through, my heart
skips and beats and hopes again.

Hope that the words you use
in song can be true also for me.

So music, you decide.  Are you really
my friend and should we both
imagine that you mean what you say.

At a Loss For Words, by Leah Lubin

Feeling vulnerable.
Still in pain.
I sit quietly in the corner
thinking about a new way
to reach out to you.

At a loss for words
but still willing to continue
the search started so long ago.
Then filled with hope.
Now more mature but still open.

I consider my possibilities.
Life alone or should I continue searching?
It is possible that you might still be out there.
Searching for me too.

Royal Blue Day, Alicia Wright

Royal Blue Day

Glacier blue breath,
A kiss of rosy upon my cheeks.
Pale royal sky,
Like a watercolor of hydrangeas
Painted across the vastness.
Blue jays and black sparrows
Bury sweet whispers of chirping
Into cool sunshine.
Anthem of midmorning.
Notifications of winter
In perfect surround sound.

Guardian of the Garden Empire, Group Poem, Capitola Book Cafe

Guardian of the Garden Empire

Song of summer, clematis on the vine
Curving about the marble columns
Startling the oriole at the entrance to the dim barnyard
Whose songs of sweet surrender like a calliope
Hush as we tiptoe across the cobblestone
The scent of chamomile drawing me closer
A sweet dance in rhapsody dream
Reminds me of whirling dervishes.
I feel the potpourri of colors and the light and I take true refuge.
A reticent breeze prods the sapling growing in rapture by the fountain.
Calmly fingering the cold steel trigger of her newly-gifted shotgun
She slowly circles its double barrel at the unwelcome scavengers eyeing her full and fragrant
Garden empire.
I am texture, heartbroken, boldly cemented in nature’s erotica.
Clenching buds slowly unfurl to the melody of an ancient myth revealing mystical shades of Victorian gold.
Nonsensical and whimsical images of huge animals frolicking in fountains
Conjures more subtle thoughts of trade winds and mountain air.
Summer swivels in a haze of expressive plum
And disrobes innocently towards autumn.
